Catching Up and Unearthing a Surprise in the Workshop
After a busy few weeks and a weekend away, things are getting back on track here at Platform Collectables.
This week’s focus has been catching up on standard servicing jobs—making sure everything from N gauge to OO gauge locos are running smoothly again. Most of the models that came in just needed the usual clean, oil, and adjustment. But one Graham Farish loco stood out...
It came in for a standard service and to tidy up a couple of loose wires—but during testing, I noticed something wasn’t quite right. After a closer look, I found that one of the drive shafts was completely missing. Now, this isn’t the kind of thing that could just fall out on its own, especially with this particular Graham Farish motor and chassis design. It looks very much like someone had been inside it before… and just forgot to put it back!
The missing part is only £3.75 to replace, but that’s still an extra cost for the customer—caused by poor servicing in the past. It just goes to show how important it is to use a trusted repairer when it comes to model train servicing. Every detail matters.
If you’ve got a train that’s been acting up—or you just want it checked over for peace of mind—I’m always happy to take a look. All servicing is carried out with care and attention, and we’ll always be upfront if something’s not quite right.
Thanks again for following along—next week’s update will be along soon!
